Jewish Poetry Project – The Door is Always Open

Sydney Jewish Writers Festival presents The Jewish Poetry Project, created by Shalom Collective

This year, Sydney Jewish Writers Festival invites you to experience a fresh take on the festival: the Jewish Poetry Project, an immersive, month-long outdoor exhibition of Jewish poetry. The four open-air sukkot/huts are inspired by the Jewish Festival of Sukkot, under the theme The Door is Always Open. Step inside and wander around our four huts at Bondi Pavilion. Each has three walls and one side open to the world, a doorway to connection, creativity, and conversation, inviting you to pause, explore, and be part of something shared.

Inside, discover Jewish poetry spanning centuries and continents from ancient psalms to haiku to contemporary lyrics. The works explore universal themes of love, grief, friendship, and migration through a distinctly Jewish lens.

Wander through at your own pace:

  • Hear poems spoken and sung through QR codes
  • Create your own verses on a magnetic word wall
  • Leave a line behind for others to find

Whether you’re wandering Bondi, bringing the family for an afternoon of discovery, or seeking cultural depth in an unexpected space, there’s a seat for you here. The door is always open. Step inside, sit awhile, and join the conversation.
